Game Review by Syndrome-X

First impressions:
Wow, this has excellent sound. The grenades exploding, the artilery strikes, they all sound excellent. As for the graphics....they are impressive. But the soldiers blend in way too well to the environment.
Let me EMPHASIZE something. SOLDIERS BLEND IN WAY TOO WELL. I was chasing a guy around a corner and completely lost him. Only to die from behind. Watched the killcam, and the guy just LAID DOWN NEXT TO THE WALL. I tend to think I have pretty good eyes. O and it doesnt hurt my screen is 92" (Theater as some of you know). That needs to be fixed.
Upon joining my first game, I tried all the weapons available at my disposal (those premade classes). They all suck in my opinion. I was getting it handed to me every time. You know what weapon worked the best for me? The pistol included with the sniper presets.

As I began to advance:
The tanks in this game seem to be a bit superior, but I have to admit, its fun sniping people off the top of them (head sticks out through hatch). After I was able to start fiddling with my classes....every gun became that much better. Stopping power is practically a must in this game (As it was in 4). I tried going with camo for perk 2 (UAV Jammer), It works, but my sniper shots are not always a 1 hit kill. (I need me some body shot 1 hit kills!!!!)

Update 11/12/08 - Okay, Something new has donned on me. The spawning system is absolutely HORRIBLE. I'll die and spawn in the EXACT SPOT I died. I am constantly spawning right in front of the enemy. I seriously take 2 steps.....and BANG Im dead. When I spawn, ive learned to get to cover AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Its that Ridiculous. If you played the game, You would know exactly what I mean.

Maps:
Wow, variety in size is a delight. Some maps are so big, you can barely make someone out even with the sniper scope. Incredible. Thats why a 1 hit kill anywhere shot is important VERY LARGE MAPS. Plenty of stuff for cover. Good balance of openness and clutter. Does that make sense?
There are quite a few open sided maps (maps that have a way to go around the entire level strictly on the outside). Makes camping that much harder. I only ran into 1 camper, and I played a crapload of games already.

Gametypes:
Pretty much all the same, some with different names. EXCEPT, there is a game mode, that is a team deathmatch for levels 8 and under. So someone can get acclimated to the game, before getting it handed to them.

Guns:
Like mentioned before, I really havent found a liking to the different guns. Only the sniper. Could just be me. Im only at level 14/15 so I have plenty more to unlock.
Artilery strikes are pretty cool, but they just dont seem to work as fast as the airstrike. You call it in, like 7 seconds later it hits. You have to guess where they are going more so. Dogs are fun (I got to call the dogs in 3 times I think so far). They are a pain in the behind if there called on you.
Special note: Do not do as I do, you might get some pissed friends.
If one of my teammates calls the dogs in, I liked to chase them and kill the people they were going after. That was a terd of me wasnt it?


Overall Gameplay:
Honestly, I find this game to move a little faster than cod4. And I sniped the whole time. It had good balance, although the pistols are amazing. No joke, I oftentimes just went around with just my pistol. lol. I had some pretty good games for just jumping straight in.
I had games of 21-10, 19-8, and 15-0.
Those are pretty good by my standards, for going straight into online.

I give the game, on a scale of 1-10...with 10 being the best, a 7.
Cod4's grade = 8.

The game seems a bit lackluster in the weapons area. Thats my only big grudge (again im only at level 15 so that will change, and I admit, Im a fan of modern guns).


OOOOOOOOOOO, and......
I had WAY to many server timeouts. Happened after every match. The match would finish, info was kept (kills, and all that), but as soon as I got in the lobby....BAM....server timeout. But everyone stayed in the lobby, and a new game started.

Sorry for such a long winded (Somewhat Biased) review. Its just what I thought of the game. Thought you might find it interesting.

Awesome review Syndrome. Every review I read gets me more excited about this game, I just wish it would hurry up and release over here already! Made me laugh at what you did when your teammates called their dogs in, pretty clever.

i thought you were going to wait to get it loser lol haha im coming online friday to play. My dad picked it up for me today of of reserve. We gotta own syndrome i want a k/d of like 1.8 this time around but that was a good analysis of the game tho brother.

I agree with almost everything in the review, especially the guns. Im not liking too may of them at all. The machine guns are your best bet early on in prestige except the first machine gun, it blocks half of your view. The enemies guns are to quiet too, you barely hear them and when you do your dead.

O I know. I agree completely about the guns. Forgot to write that in. Excellent point. They are WAY to quiet. At times I thought they were silenced.

Good review. I really like the variety of maps. Every time I play on Dome I am always tempted to commit suicide by jumping off the edge into the pit. It's fun.

Well in COD4, it is TOO easy to spot someone. When countersniping, it is easy to spot a ghillie suit.
