Key Code In Use COD4

ok... Hello first off... new to the site.. and to the game..

i keep getting "key code in use" when i try to use multiplayer .. I have a legit key.... and tried and tried ... I did all the latest patches... and updated punkbuster .. rebooted pc... (never had a game crash) ...but still can't get online... it's been about a week now... ..

i even went as far as finding a "keygen" and typing in new keys and they never worked either.... went back to my original one... still nothing... how do I fix this..?? Am i just screwed that someone already got my key ?????? even from a new game ??

Did you download any hacks or anything. Because many of those downloads would are scams and it steals ur cd key. But thats probably not the case.

Restart your router.

no hacks have been downloaded... was straight install to my pc.. then went to multiplayer... and got that issue... I have been trying everything.. i have restarted my router.. i even went as far as trying a "keygen" to make keys to see if that would work.. obviously I figured it wouldn't.. so went back to original key.. still no go...

this sucks... SP is still good to play.. but would love to be online playing it...

dang , still 20$ plus what i paid for the game...?????

Well you could find key codes from websites...
There is a stickied topic in the forums somewhere explaining what to do if your key code is in use.

im not sure if this will fix your problem because it seems silly but all i done was go into multi options and click on key code then i just clicked verify it workd for me so just thought id let you know if you havent already tryed it, hope it works

Hey Guys i have been playing COD 4 modern Warfare for about 6 months now and i havn't had a single problem with the game whatsoever until about 2 weeks ago

One day i tried to join an internode server (what i always play on HC S&D) but it came up with the error ("keycode in use please reconnect later").

So i contacted the US support site for activision and we went through heaps of troubleshooting like my router, my specs for my pc/internet connection and port forwarding blah blah blah..... the wierd thing is that it worked perfect for months on end then suddenly that error message popped up everytime i tried to connect to a server for multiplayer

So i havnt been able to play it at all now because activision wont cancel my key or tell me who is using it or supply me with a new one even though i told them my cd key and posted pics with the dates of my gamebox on different angles and my booklet etc

I have tried everything...... can anyone shed some light for me too because this is driving me nuts...... though i have been cranking COD 5 WAW without any problems.... its awesome just like COD 4 except all my clan mates still crank COD 4 *sigh*

Well I'm another victom of this error.!!

As i posted in a similar forum i was playing with my bought ligit copy, and i've been playing for a total of 5 days, then randomly this error comes up in the yesterday morning! However when I first boot pc it works for maybe 5-10 min, i can get into any server and play as per normal. But soon after joining it says server disconnected and im out. Then i go back in to server list to join another but the "key in use" error pops up for around a half hour, then it lets me back in. I also noticed that the server i was playing doesn't appear on the server list when i refresh after being disconnected!

I'm as lost as everyone else but I think it may be that the server is holding onto my key even after ive disconnected, thinking im still playing. I know my key hasn't been hacked or stolen cause i can still play and if someone with my key tried to play online it wouldn't work so ......lol.

Anyway toughts are appreaciated!

if you thought your a victim of software theft. You may want to think about it again.

I frequent Wifi connectivity as my source of internet.
So somtimes the connection appears to be ok to poor( -82db or worse)
i connect with 32ms ping and everyt hing is ok for about 10seconds and the Im slammed, lago meter is all over the place red spikes all over the place...
im runing /snaps 35 graphics lowest max fps at 95
then it gets so choppy that i /disconnect and attempt to /reconnect
this fix's the problem most of the time if its bad i get "Key code in Use"

my conclusion
1. is that the Server is holding the key in use becuase 1 your ipaddress you just were on is not responding back and your connecting from another new one.
2. the router is not allowing packet passthrough. Either the NAT need to adjusted to allow passthrough or your router needs to be powercycled.
