How old was the PSU? I've popped a few myself. They can go with a hell of a bang/flash (which is what it sounds like happened to you), or they can go quietly and the capacitors just melt and start leaking gunk (a good reason to have bottom mounted PSUs - amongst others).

When decent ones pop (and Antec are one of the better makes around) it's usually the result of old age, extreme heat (usually caused by dust build up), a massive power surge (I have pretty hefty surge protection system in place for my more expensive hardware to rule this out), or someone getting a bit too giddy with an overclock

The other thing with decent PSUs is that if they do pop, they have built in surge protectors to protect the rest of your hardware. The chances are you won't even have damaged sectors on your HDD (though you may have lost some data if it was reading/writing at the time).

STOP! Don't order one from newegg tomorrow. Antec's usually have at least a 3 to 5 year warranty on them, so you should be able to get it repaired (or even replaced with a brand new one) for free

They make great PSU's however their customer service is atrocious. They do not make any modular PSU's like this anymore and they are certainly not going to put themselves out to replace it with something better. Besides I need it to stay under 1000w as if not then I have to add an additional power line.

    It has a 5 year.

Just because you have a 1000W psu doesn't mean you'll be drawing 1000W from the socket. You'll only pull as much power as you normally use, so if your rig only pulled 800W previously, it'll only pull 800 even if you put a 1kW psu in there (unless the last one popped because it was overloaded of course, but that's unlikely)

Get on to them. It will take a while because their customer service do take their time about things. You might be able to speed up the process if the retailer is willing to help you out. Even if you buy another PSU in the meantime, you can still get that one replaced. Use it for another PC or sell it on...

The warranty is one of the reasons to buy an Antec PSU after all, much like EVGA with graphics cards etc...
