I'm a three ish year vet of the cod series so I consider myself a pretty decent player. When it comes to kill streaks it really doesn't matter what you do or how anyone feels about em. Pick what you think works best for you. Though I'm a pretty cautious player (typically die under 8 times a game- not via hiding), I'm quite agressive. Assault could work, but I don't have the patience for it. I typically run heavy support. Uav > vests > nothing, recon drone or escort airdrop.

Uav> cuav. Or uav > vests is pretty mean. You are giving up a third ks, but if you can get 10 pr more kills a game you're really helping your team out. I like recon drone because in a game riddled with campers, it's a great way to mark them quickly (just remember to pull the trigger to actually target the guys). If you're team is good, a good recon drone round will utterly destroy the team. I had 18 asists once, that game ended completely one sided. The biggest thing for that ks, save it till you need it. I usually get it and hold it. Sometimes I don't use it, but for the most part around 15-19 kills I'll turn it on. I have no problem sharing kills with my tmates.

Many folks will say something along the lines that support is for noobs and that is an abusive streak set. F'em. that same thinking could be said about many things in the game, from shotties and akimbo machine pistols to semi auto weapons in the hands of a quick fingered player. Really, there's no wrong choice.

My only assault class is my sniper setup. 5+ kill streaks aren't hard at all for a good mobile sniper, that is when you get the hang of that style of play.

And then there's specialist. Very very fun. For poops and grins I use this one one at random times. When you get really high ks's on this one you start racking up mega xp and I love the sound effect each time you unlock a perk.

so, is the modern warfare 3 the LATEST game of the series? Was black ops the previous one?
which of the two is better and worth playing online?

    thanks!
The modern warefares have their own cult following. Meaning even after a newer version of COD comes out (2013) there is a good sized community that will keep playing Modern Warefare (1, 2 & 3). This is NOT the case with World @ War, Blacks Ops etc. So for that reason I would go with Modern Warefare 3. I still have plenty of friends that play Black Ops but they will put the game down when the next COD comes out

I enjoyed both games (as I finished the 10 & 12 prestiges in both) but MW3 is more complicated/intricate & I like that. It just has more stuff going on & will keep you more intrigued & playing more/longer.

I have a buddy that is joining MW3 soon after playing Black Ops & Battlefield the past 5 or so months.

the killstreaks in this game have a nice variety especially the fact that you can choose the support stuff or the other one (i am forgetting the name). which one do you prefer btw? i guess good players prefer the killing ones and the newer players the support ones?
As a completely new player, you're going to have a hard go of it in the beginning. some of it will be ability and reaction, but most of it will be map knowledge, spawn knowledge, etc.

For that reason, go with support in the beginning. Yeah, getting some nice air support killing machines is fun... but not if you can't reach them. And you'll help your team out more with UAVs, Counters, etc.

Once your comfort level is up and you can consistently (at least twice a match lets say) get a 4-5 streak going, then it's time to start thinking about Assault.

OTOH, the Specialist package is a ton of fun, and really speeds up your levelling. Once you unlock Hardline, you might want to have at least one class with this. Every first kill is an extra perk, and each 2 after that until you get to 7. If you get to 7 (8 without Hardline) you have ALL perks enabled (and weapon perks). It's not quite godmode, but you are a wrecking machine just the same.

In the end, don't worry about killstreaks all that much and just play. You'll have more fun that way. Killstreaks are just icing.

When you do go Assault, keep your streaks at low counts at first until you think you can chain them well enough to go for the high ones.

^ Agreed. If I could add something, when they added the support kill streaks it was a domino. It forced the addition of a point system & something that COD players STILL DON'T take advantage of..... using Launchers adds to the POINT SYSTEM. So shooting down a plane is the equivalent of killing someone. This is HUGE.

If you have played past COD's, you might find in MW3 the amount of air support in a regular Team Deathmatch to be similar to that of a Ground War match. I feel you have to not only take advantage of the increased air support by shooting it down to increase your own point system/kill streak but to also keep a competitive edge. It is not un-common to play a match where the enemy has multiple UAV's up the entire match. You can either
    a) Use assassin
    B) Creep around & reel in opponents as a red dot on their screen
    C) Shoot down air support and increase your own kill streak

I can't tell you how many times I needed one more kill for a Missile or Helicopter and I shot down their spy plane in order to obtain it. Easiest kill streak combo is ofcourse 5-6-7
    - Missile
    - Precision Airstrike
    - Attack Helicopter

With a Stinger shooting down spy planes (counter UAV's & their other air support) + Hardline Pro = Easily get 15+ kills a game

Obviously this strategy gets old but it is the easy way to gain confidence in this game

I remember there used to be a shotgun which you could have two of (one in each hand). Is there such a thing in MW3?

    No (thank goodness).

There's still akimbo for secondaries which is bad enough as it is. But shotguns are primaries now.

The Model 1887 is still in the game though. Just not for akimbo.

There are private matches like that. There's one called "One in the chamber" where you start with one bullet and get ammo by killing guys.

One that was private but now is a public game type is called "Infected." Think of it like "tag." One guy starts as infected. Everyone else in the lobby is trying to keep from getting infected. Every person killed by an infected becomes infected. When you're infected, you're faster, but only have a knife and throwing knife. Most matches end with everyone becoming infected. Odd as it sounds (knives vs. guns), they'll overwhelm you eventually.

The only down sides to private matches is getting people to join them, and you can't gain xp in them.

I don;t do many private matches, so I'm unsure if you can set your own rules, but it would make sense.
