Add your comm in after with whatever video editing software you have.

I know how to do it with Virtualdub (vdub for short) and Audacity... Open the video file with Virtualdub, save .wav to rip the audio. Leave Vdub running and minimise it.

Using audacity, open up the wav file you've just saved, import audio (in you case the pre recorded commentary file), then either export it as a mix.mp3 file (better compatibility for certain well known video hosts), or save it as mix.wav (larger file size, won't work with some sites etc - you can change "mix" to whatever you want).

Back to Virtualdub, under the audio tab select "direct stream copy" and "audio from other file" then choose your newly created mp3 file (or indeed wav if that's the case). Select the VBR option when importing the audio to avoid sync errors. Profit

There's a lot more that you can do with just these two tools (vdub/audacity), it would take too long to go into a detailed description though. Play around with a few things to see what they do (make sure you've made a backup of any files you're playing with to be on the safe side).

I'd use a more basic piece of kit for adding commentary TBH, something like Sony Vegas. After Effects is much more for adding visual effects and other heavy editing.

You don't get much more basic than vdub (sony vegas actually uses the same codecs and even layouts in some cases) and audacity lol. And they're both free

I know, I have and use both programs. :P

Vegas is a bit more user friendly for this kind of thing though. Just drag your video in and record your commentary on to a seperate track through your mic. Done and dusted.

Yes, but he's using a pre recorded audio track. So while you are technically correct, your method doesn't quite apply to his scenario

Oh... I see... Getting techical, are we?

Vegas would make things easier for his future commentaries, as opposed to just being useful this one time, though. :P

If he wants to record them on the fly definitely.
