    Default Warhammer 40,000

I do not know how many of you play WARHAMMER 40,000 but I thought it might be nice to have our own thread. I think this thread however should encompass the whole spectrum of what the Warhammer 40,000 universe is, so I propose to set down some ground rules or more like stipulations.

    This thread is for:

WarHammer: Books, games (to include the board game as I do not know of any computer game for it) and discussion.

Warhammer 40,000: Books, games (to include DoW, DoWII, Retribution, the new Space Marine game coming out and the original series) and discussion.

Please when making your post include a title when it strays from the current topic so that we all understand what you are talking about, using quotes when useful, necessary and needed.

Here are some links I have put together for those interested. This is mainly for WarHammer 40k, I did not go into specifics of the Warhammer universe as you can spread out to it from the 40k universe. There are a great deal of wikia and or wikipedia sites you can find by searching, I try not to use wiki sites as much as possible that is why it is sparse. Keep in mind some of these links may provide other items than what I have filed the links under but they are (or should be) in the category which best suites them.

    Basic info:
    Games Workshop
    Lexicanum
Pretty good source for info based on time line.

    Books:
    Black Library

    Modeling:
Nice little modeling site, kind of high end

    • 1993: Warhammer 40,000: Space Hulk

    • 2013: Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online

List of video games from the Warhammer 40k series.
    Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War
    Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of war.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of war Winter Assault exp.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of war Soulstorm exp.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of war Dark Crusade exp.
    DoW files on filefront
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War II (Could not find a link for just DoWII)
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II Chaos Rising
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II Retribution (this is a funny title as it is an expansion but it is a stand alone; original game not needed.)

Think that should do it for now. Will update as I can or as new info is available and if I remember.

There are a few warhammer games, i know one of them is situated at abandonia, cause it's so old it's license has expired meaning it's free to DL legally, there's a few others but i forget their names, but they tend to orient more around Chaos than any other race if i remember right.

Basically, warhammer and warhammer 40,000 are tabletop games played using miniatures created by "citadel miniatures", they follow the usual rules of tabletop war games etc.... hits are decided by dice rolls etc..., you build your models, paint them and basically you each take a turn and gotta move and attack, kinda like turn based strategy video games, only not in video game form

Warhammer is the fantasy style, with dragons, elves, the undead and things like that, and 40,000 is a science fiction style game based on the same rule sets. there's even a warhammer lord of the rings game

My clan and I played Warhammer online for pretty long time. I played for about 6 months they played for over a year. It's too bad the dev's put so little effort into that game, It could have been a great MMO.

i forgot about warhammer online, although i've personally never played it xD

by the way, bit of info you might wanna put in there walkaway, warhammer races (circa '98 anyways....old catalogue) Undead, High Elves, The Empire, Dark Elves, Chaos, Skaven, Dwarves, Orcs & Goblins, Lizardmen, Bretonnians, Wood Elves, Chaos Dwarves. there are probably some newer ones but i'm working with old material here xD

40k: Chaos Space Marines, Space Marines, Eldar, Space Orks, Tyranids, Tau, Imperial Guard, Sisters Of Battle, Necrons. I don't remember if i've missed any from 40k or not...

I have not really delved into DoW but I know from many long bouts and restarts that DoWII is a rather large game and time consuming. I believe it is a total of 70 in game days plus the expansion puts you up around 30 more. You add to this the fact that if you stay away from the main missions that progress the story until you run out of side missions, you can earn extra deployments for the same game day and each game day (if done meticulously, striving for 11 - 13 emblems) takes on average 60 - 80 minutes you are looking at a game that can reach 300 hours of game play pretty easily. Retribution adds to this as you play one race for a total of (just picking a number as I don't really know) say 50 hours, you then have 5 other races you need to play through the campaign with totaling about the same for each race. That makes for a lot of game time for a game that cost about 80$ for everything including the war gear you can dld.

EDIT: And I updated the OP.

See with that i tend to go really slowly, thus sacrificing the speed emblems, but going for full on the other two stats so i don't lose anyone and kill all enemies, it's helped so far, completed the original game 3 or so times, really need the expansions though =\

edit: playing it as i type this xD

That is what I do. I sacrifice the speed as the foundries you have will give you one to two emblems anyway. You have to give up something. I would rather kill them all and collect more wargear. About the only things I do not like about the game is that fact you cannot take more than 4 squads on a deployment and you cannot change your perks once you have placed points into them and left the screen. All game developers should take a lesson from Borderlands, make the game the way people will enjoy it.

That and I think you are stuck at level 20 and I do not know if that goes up with the chaos expansion.
