Riddle me this batman... (We need some good BF conversation anyways... CoD is dying, bring on BF3Boards.com!)
Which will Battlefield 3 be? BF3 - the successor to BF2; or BC3 - the successor to BC2.
I didn't play huge amounts of BF2, but this is what I remember, from the final form. Nades that make CoD4 nades look wussy. Vehicles that will push your **** in. Huge open maps that were huge and open far beyond that seen anywhere in Frostbite to date. Small weapon selection, no attachment system - some guns had built in sights, bout it, but fun none the less.
Take note of the last two. Dice has already said they are doing more urban combat for BF3, which added with destruction is a sure indicator of smaller, tighter maps. Makes me think of Karkhand, which is certainly good. Is it possible to have the traditional BF sized map in Frostbite while having even more destruction? Me thinks not. Could a game this hyped launch with what, 15 or so weapons and no attachments in this era post CoD4? Hell no, it'd flop nearly instantly.
Bad Company on the other hand - both games - were based off of smaller maps, Rush mode, and ultimately in BC2 a very balanced system of vehicles and launchers, weapons and a couple of attachments. BC started as a offshoot into Consoles, but yet, now the big one is using the next step of the same engine. It almost has to take a BC2 style stance, because it needs large amounts of weapons, it needs attachments, it needs vehicles, it needs balance, and BF is of course, class based. Barring some radical change to that last one, I'm not sure BF3 will be more related to BF2 than BC2.
Not saying it's a bad thing, because frankly, BC2 blows the doors off of most any other game that has been released in a similar style anytime recently. And it most certainly has room for improvement - such as limiting those who can use vehicles, ala Project Reality.
So, could BF3 really just be BC3, and in the end, is that enough? BF3 is an enigma, no one knows anything. With BC2, we had an idea of what was going to be what. With BF2, we had an idea as well. What is Battlefield?
