Cant you just use the Play option that will appear on the Auto Run Setup from the disk ?

Have you tried installing Patch 1.2 ?

Is the disc in the same drive that you installed it from, i know games in the past have sometimes been abit fussy about this :(

After installing COD 4 on my PC (which exceeds by a considerable margin the stated minimum specs for the game), I got the "Insert DVD/CD disc in drive" error message, and of coruse the disc was still in the drive from the installation. I tried everything I found online about this issue but nothing worked. I have no copying (other than Nero) or virtual drive programs installed. Then I thought about the fact that I have a second optical drive, a CD burner, which I left in my computer when I upgraded to a DVD/CD burner this summer. I never use the CD burner any more, but left it there "just in case". So I figured, what have I got to lose? I disconnected the CD drive and removed the cable entirely from my computer (the DVD burner uses a SATA cable, as do my hard drives). After starting the computer I tried the game and - voila! - it worked! So if you have more than one optical drive in your computer, try disconnecting it and see if the game works then.

I had the same error and it was due to audio issues. I switched from a USB mic to an Analog one. Somewhere in windows XP/Vista you have to change MIC settings
