cod 1.6 patch already installed?

hey, so I had cod4 and I had to re-install it, when I try to patch it to 1.7 I get this message

"The setup has detected Call of Duty- Modern Warfare patch 1.6 is already installed, click ok to exit the installer"

The patches are not installed. I'm thinking it's maybe because it is trying to install it to the old COD4 I deleted. So, is there anyway I can change the install location? or anything else I can do to make it work?

If you're using the GOTY edition, it already has 1.6 installed, so you just need 1.7.

If you're using a non GOTY version, and reinstalling gives you this error, you need to clean it from your registry first. Uninstall the game again, then click start>run>type regedit>hit return. Then browse to My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Activision. Delete the Call of Duty 4 folder. Depending on your operating system the location may be sluightly different. Do NOT upload/email the contents of this folder/subfolders to anywhere/anyone for ANY reason. It contains sensitive files, namely your cd-key.
