Here is yet another guide by me. And this one is about the L86 LSW light machine gun.
Let's get it starting:
The L86A2 Light Support Weapon originate from the British SA80 weapons program of the 1980's. The L86A1 was originally intended to replace the venerable Bren in the role of the squad automatic weapon. Since the upgrade to A2 standard however, the L86 is now primarily used as a designated marksman's rifle.
Much like its assault rifle counterpart, the L86A2 LSW is built in a bullpup configuration and is chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition. Though both usually come equipped with the SUSAT optical sight by default, they can also make use of their default ironsights should the need arise. An increasing number of weapons have been rebuilt to incorporate a Picatinny Rail, allowing them to accommodate a variety of other modifications (such as a Red Dot Sight or an ACOG).
Gun specs:
Capacity: 100 (how many bullets go into one mag)
Fire rate: 750 RPM (How many bullets the gun can fire in one minute)
Reload time: 7.0 seconds (Total reload time)
Reload: 5.0 seconds (Time to remove the mag)
Empty: 5.0 seconds (Time it takes to reload the gun after mag is emptied)
Add: 2.0 seconds (Time it takes to shove the mag in the gun)
ADS speed: .35 (Time it takes to bring the gun from hip to sights)
Raise time: 1.05 (Time it takes to grab the weapon from your back)
Drop time: .75 (Time it takes to put the gun on your back
Base damage: 40-40
Silenced damage: 30-30
Headshot damage: 56
Stopping power damage: 56
Sorry for the big wall of text, and repeading words :P
Pros and cons:
+ High RoF
+ Highest DPS of all weapons at long range
+ High mag size
+ 2HK killing machine w/ SP
+ Very sexy ACOG replacement (more on that later)
- GRIP IS MANDATORY
- Irons are generaly disliked (not by me ^^)
- Slow ADS
- Lowest mobility of all LMGs
Attachments:
Grip: MANDATORY!!!! What a horrib-- wonderfull word ^^ No seriously, the grip is mandatory because if you don't have the grip on it, the recoil just makes the gun go everywhere you don't want it to go :P Therefore I can't really rate this attachment, because it's mandatory. There is almost no way around. Rating: x/10
Red dot sight: This replaces the generaly disliked irons with a sexy reflex sight. This is very usefull if you just can't get used to the iron sights. I don't find them very usefull (as with all other sights, except SUSAT (ACOG scope)). Rating: 8/10
Silencer: This attachment reduces the base damage from 40 to 30, This makes the L86 a 4HK weapon standard and 3HK weapon w/ SP. This attachment can be quite great because the RoF of the L86 is so high, it doesn't really take long to kill anyways, also it allows you to shoot the weapon without showing up on the radar. Though I still prefer the L86 unsilenced. Rating: 5/10
SUSAT sight: OMG this is the sexiest attachment in the whole game!!! Here it is:
![]()
AAAAAAANYWAYS, this scope replaces the standard ACOG scope with the SUSAT (as seen above), and the ACOG xhairs are replaced with a d*ck shaped thingy (as seen above). The SUSAT xhair aims just like the irons, with the tip of the d*ck :P Rating for sexyness: 10/10 :P Actual rating (blinged with grip): 7/10 If you can burst: 8/10
FMJ: This attachment is very very usefull, the penetration is high, and the damage is high, and if you use stopping power, it should still take 2-3 shots to kill the person behind cover (2-3 shots depending on thickness of cover) so the ext mags challenge should not be that hard at all. Rating: 9/10
Holographic sight: Unlocked after 60 kills while looking down the RDS. This sight looks cooler then the RDS in all ways :P The dot is bigger, it has a crosshair around it and the body is thicker. Rating: 8.01 for coolness ^^
Heartbeat sensor: This attachment is pretty damn usefull on the L86 because you can see the whole HBS if you ADS. Whohoo!! Therefore, you never have to worry about missing your HBS sweeps when you try to hold choke points. Rating: 9/10
Thermal scope: This attachment goes suprisingly well with the L86, because of the 2HK capability at all ranges and when blinged with grip, you can kill people very easily. But, no matter how usefull it is, the recoil makes it very inaccurate at long range, even burst firing doesn't work. However, tap shooting (like the FAL) will help it alot, but you will have to wait for the xhair to reset before you shoot, this shouldn't take long, but it can give the enemy a slight chance of escaping. Rating: 7/10
Ext mags: This right here, is massive overkill. It's only usefull if you like to use scavenger, and you don't reload alot, because you don't have the cronic reload syndrome. Also, the reload time is not painfully slow as on most of the LMGs, so reloading should not be a problem. However, it sure does feel great to have 200 rounds in one mag, because you just know you will never run out of ammo in the middle of a fire fight again ^^ Rating: x/10 (depends if you like to have 200 round mags)
Perks:
Tier 1: (I'll only discuss usefull perks)
Sleight of hand: this perk can help you alot, this makes the reload time very very fast for an LMG. The pro version also helps alot because the ADS time is sorta slow. Rating: 8/10
Scavenger: This perk allows you to refill ammo supllies from dead bodies (blue scav bags), the pro version gives you 400 rounds right of the bat, the 400 rounds are split up in 4x100 round mags. Rating: 10/10
Bling: With this perk, you can have 2 attachments on your primary weapon. Therefore, you can bling the L86 with the Grip and another attachment of choise. The pro version allows you to have 2 attachments on your secondary weapon (wut?). Rating: 9/10
(I didn't put OMA here because I don't feel it's very usefull on the L86, you could just as easily use SoH or Scav.)
Tier 2:
Stopping power: This is the key to the 2HK at all ranges. Use this if you can't burst fire, or if you want fast-paced games, because you can just mow them down >:]. Also this makes the L86 almost insurmountable, only by shotguns, the MP5k, the G18. And it has the same DPS up close as the TAR-21 and the Vector (so that depends on who gets the first shot, and hits the most).
Most usefull things after SP:
Lightweight: This is very usefull, the L86 has the lowest mobility of all LMGs in game (forgot to say that earlier, I'll edit that right away in the cons) and therefore, 7% extra movement speed is welcome ^^ Rating: 8/10
Cold-blooded: Also usefull as it makes you invisible on UAV and to killstreaks. This may seem the best perk to use when you use the silencer also, but that makes the L86 a 4HK weapon, so don't use the two together. If you just use CB with any attachment I would give it a 8/10.
Tier 3:
Steady aim: This perk reduces the hip-fire crosshair by 35% (making it 65% as opposed to 100% w/out it) and that's the key to the almost insurmounable beast at close range >:] The pro version allows you to hold you breath longer...Rating: 10/10
Ninja: This makes you invisible to heartbeat sensors (ninja's seem to have no pulse...) and the pro version makes your footsteps more silent. The pro version is really the thing to have. It's quite usefull if you like to combine it with marathon and lightweight and a silencer and just run around/flank and PWN biitchezz. But if you play defensively (like you should) you are better of when using any other perk. Rating: 7/10
Commando: Very usefull for suprise CQC because this gives you 17ft of lunge range O_O *cough*gayness*cough* And the pro commando will let you jump of 50ft buildings and happily walk along, because you will survive all fall damage. Usefull with M/L/C and run around in Favela ^^ Rating: 7/10
Tactics:
Use the default 'Overwatch' class to get 10 kills and get used to the weapon a bit. The overwatch class is as following:
Primary Weapon: L86 LSW with RDS and Grip
Secondary Weapon: AT4-HS
Equipment: Semtex
Special Grenade: Flash x2
Perk 1: Bling
Perk 2: Danger Close
Perk 3: Sit Rep
Death Streak: Painkiller
<3 internetz ^^
This is actually a very good class, and I would advise it untill you unlock some more attachment, or use it 'till you unlock the Holo sight, if you prefer that. This also saves one slot for another custom class. If you really want SP on it, just make a custom class for the L86, but I would definitely advise to use the default untill you unlock atleast the Grip.
*BIG WALL OF TEXT OMG!!!*
Use this weapon as a defensive weapon. In other words, don't rush with it, unless you are an experienced LMG user (like me ^^).
You can modify the L86 to all of your wishes, but only if you bling it. The grip makes the L86 a really good gun, the recoil becomes controlable and the hip-fire is not rediculously big. And the other attachment you want to slap on it, is up to you
I would not suggest the silencer, unless you are again experienced or if you like a challenge. Also, if you do decide to use the silencer, use SP as perk 2, because this makes the damage 42, instead of 30 w/out SP.
The L86 is one of the few weapons that doesn't lose much if you don't use SP with it, and that opens up a slot for the red perk.
