Rebooting works wonders for me. Even before the reboot, sometimes the "Strict NAT" warning is faulty and I can play at normal FPS.

I have vista x64 bit, comcast to a RCA modem and is hooked up directly to my computer. I don't have a router and so i don't know what to do. I have tried going to network and sharing center and turning on network discovery and file sharing but my NAT is still strict. I couldn't find any help for people with modem. Any help would be nice, thanks.
Hey Funkmonkey
Thanks for doing so much to help with the Strict versus Open network connections issue. I'm trying to get back to an open status. I'm totally new to port forwarding etc. I just ignorantly started playing multi cod4 and MW2 and it wasn't until I noticed the Strict status at MW2 the other day that I became interested. The game still plays at the Strict status, and I can see
from all the info that I need to get that back somehow, but how is the Stict status hurting me. Is it slowing down my in game response etc? Or just not letting me use other in game bells and whistles etc. I have started playing a little badly lately--but I've even seen it at COD2 multi as well--probably just me/and not the machine I guess.
I have win7 and a D-Link wired router model DGL-4100. I never even had a router until I decided to experiment with using my old PS3 console on line etc and decided to connect all. But things seemed to automatically be open automatically at first--I'm new to this but I remember seeing the open in MW2. And the only change I made was to recently switch from MS Onecare AV to MS Security Essentials . I wonder if that change had a some effect. Maybe just coincidental.
Anyway I'm gonna follow your tutorial and see if I can return to a secure open port for MW2.
I'm new to this forum. I just registered. I found ur post via google.
Thanks for your help

Isn't NAT annoying....
i have a linksys router, WRT160Nv2, and ive tried, literally everything.. i have a static local ip and the ports, as far as i can see, are forwarded correctly... i have no firewall past the windows one (im operating vista) and yet it still says that my nat is strict and the tool from portcheccker is telling me that my ports are still closed... i'm a bit bemused; any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Thought i'd put in what works for me.
All my ports are open, checked with portforward.com & still i get Strict.
What i do is....
Press Start on my Vista pc then
Type cmd,
Click on that icon,
Then type.....(netsh winsock reset) No brackets or dots
Press enter button.
After it says....The requested operation requires elevation,
Restart your pc.
I doesn't always open my Nat straight away but it does work for me.
What this does i'm not sure but after desparation i find it works.
Having your ports open is only half the job, you need to set yor PC to use a single, static IP; and forward the ports to that IP. Otherwise your router doesn't know where to send the info![]()
My NAT says open...I did port forwaring..still no luck getting into any games since i switched my ISP, could be my Netgear router? Should I buy a new one?
Thank u so much Funk.... working like a charm!!
My is working now....got a modem from a friend, connect it, forgot that you have to call to active it, was high, just wanted to play, connect my modem back...and tha'ts it..
