Hey all - this is my first weapon guide since my M4A1 Guide (which in my opinion could have been better). I'm going to run this guide a bit differently than normal, and hopefully its a little more helpful and easy to read. I'd like to do a few more for weapons that aren't that common (i.e Type 95 + MP7 = overused). You could call these hipster weapons, but hipster weapons don't seem to get much love. This is the guide to the MP5.
Overview
The MP5 may have turned off some by its large kick and slower fire rate. However, what compliments this gun is the decent damage output, and the user friendly iron sights. You will find it hard to hit anything beyond closer range, which makes this an ideal rushing weapon or for your close quarters needs.
My Class
Before I get into the "helpfulness" part of the guide, I'll give you my class before hand. My class is set-up for rushing, but I have had success objective running (such as Domination and CTF).
MP5 w/ Silencer (Kick)
P99
Semtex
Flash
Extreme Conditioning Pro
Quickdraw Pro
Stalker Pro
UAV, Predator Missile, Attack Helicopter
I firmly believe the MP5 isn't half of what it could be without kick. Let's face it; its not steady at all, and puts it at an enormous disadvantage compared to guns like the MP7. However, the great iron sights make it a great weapon to use an attachment not optic related. The silencer is great because it a bit hard to face an overwhelming number of enemies (2 is fine, I've never had luck with 3). Again this puts me at a disadvantage, but with Rapid Fire you may have more success. My set-up is a basic rushing set-up, letting me finagle around enemies and pick them off one by one. Because of this I find myself scoring flags often, but sometimes my firepower gets limited in capturing a high traffic flag in Domination.
Recommended Attachments
Silencer
Extended Mags
Rapid Fire
Red Dot Sight
The Red Dot Sight really isn't recommended unless you really need it - however using two attachments isn't really recommended. If you can live with the sights (which you should) I highly recommend you use one of the above. The silencer would obviously enable stealth like tactics. This gun highly benefits from the silencer (much like its CoD4 variant) and with a smart playstyle, you have an early level tactical beast. Extended Mags is beneficial if you don't like the silencer because maybe of a lack of power, but maybe Rapid Fire isn't your thing. Extended Mags will contribute to overwhelming numbers, which is essential for Domination when capturing flags. And when you need that extra firepower, Rapid Fire is yours to thrive.
Recommended Proficiences
Kick
Range
This gun kicks like an F2000 from MW2. I suggest running kick to help maintain stability in CQB matchups. However, Range may benefit this gun because of its lack of effectiveness for medium range. Maybe in maps where you could encounter a moment like this, you can be more prepared.
Tips
- The MP5 runs out of ammo after about five-six kills w/o Rapid Fire. Running Scavenger or a Machine Pistol can help this.
- This is an SMG where you can out perform an Assault Rifle when you control the recoil at Medium Range. This is where your proficiency helps.
- Key maps to avoid using this are Bakaara, Outpost, and Fallen.
- Maps where this gun thrives are Bootleg, Hardhat, and Downturn.
Final Thoughts
Once you unlock the PP90m1, you have no reason to rush with this weapon. The UMP45 also exceeds the MP5 in medium Range skirmishes. However, if you are looking to conserve ammo in the CQB land, the MP5 has some neat tricks up it's sleeve.
Rating: 7.0/10
Pros:
- Ideal power for low levels
- Good iron sights
- Fire Rate conserves ammo
Cons
- Kicks like a mule
- PP90m1 and MP7 clearly outperform in rushing
- Range is limited
I hope you enjoy my guide. Look for my G36c guide in the coming weeks.
