Anyone use night vision for dark maps like Wet Works? Do they give you an added advantage? What are your opinions?

My friend's TV is REALLY messed up so on really light or dark maps it's almost impossible to see correctly. I guess the night vision would help if you're TV is really screwed.

I've tried it and I could never get use to it, even on wet works.
The only time I use it is when I accidentally press the wrong way on the directional pad.

Used it on wet works a few times, plus I tried to use it in some other dark places like the buildings in Downpour, but most of the time I simply forget about it. I don't think it offers a significant enough advantage to turn it on every time you respawn (less so upon entering/leaving a building).

I have a big screen HDstreamed TV, I can see clearly in most places, but I use it for ANY dark spots. Its easier to catch thems gamers hiding like wussies in corners, dark places, etc.

Heh, I practially have it on all the time in Single Player...and I use it on any Multiplayer maps that have dark areas, Vacant for example. With these two, you could say I actually LIVE with Night Vision on. Helps a ton to cast out shadows, and from a distance, any shadowed figure is probaly a enemy, making em easier to spot. But be warned, it seriously makes some people mad on PC on FFA, when they need to wait for respawn, and they see what you see, they hate the green and glare.

I used to use it on Wetwork.
It helps distinguish movement against the background. But i ussually leave it off now. Can look confusing and irritates my eyes.

Tch, my TV sucks but it does the job. I would use Night vision if I were to remember, the only time I remember is when I get killed and I see the killcam and my oponent was using it, then I remember to use it. But its not all that great.

I only use it on wetwork, depending on what gun im using. The glint off of my gold M60 makes it almost impossible to see anything.
I sometimes use it on Wetworks, because when people camp under the stairs in the shadows, its like impossble to see them!

I don't even think I have ever even turned my night vision on. It doesn't help me at all and I see better on the darker maps with it off.

Seriously i just use it on wet works and nothing else b/c i can see just fine on regular maps. Plus even on wet works it hurts my eyes to use it to much.

Strange I have to say. Everyones eyes hurt when NV is on, yet I feel nothing, and I don't even see alot of light, and going outside into the sun sorta makes my eyes hurt alot.

I get quite bad eyes to be fair.
I need to wear sunglasses, even during overcast days.

i dont need to use nightvision. My monitor has an automatic brightness control that lightens on dark maps :)

yeh night vision is helpful, sometimes, in bloc in really dark places, i struggle to find the exit door, and usually work around in circles trying to find it, thats when NV becomes helpful

Also you can go into settings (for cod4) and put brightness up and wetwork looks like a normal map :D

it does help in dark places, but gets annoying after a while. but i think they should make a really dark map where you need it.

it would be cool if you could play all the maps at night also make night vision more useful. Imagine downpour at night would be the coolest.

I ALWAYS use it on Wet Works, and usually any dark interior place as well. I have a 32" LCD with full 1080p support, so it gives me a pretty good view. Plus, my eyesight isn't the best so it helps there too

The only time that it can be of use is on WetWorks, you can hide out in one of the trailers waiting for someone to walk by - then scare the crap out of them. Under the steps in also another place to use NV. You just have to flip them off/on at appropriate times.
I once heard that IW was planning on adding some night time maps, maybe before COD 5 comes out? You never know...

AC, i doubt it, i dont think Activision would let them make another DLC even though the map pack made 10 million USD in the first week of release for the 360. Activision doesnt want to draw attention from Treyarch's COD5...which we all know will suck.

It kinda helps on Downpour, Wetworks, and Vacant, but I barely use it.

yeah, i use it whenever i can like when im sniping in bloc and I'm looking through a door on the other side of the map. It's hard to see through it properly so when I turn on nightvision it becomes much easier. It makes seeing everything around you harder tho. The only maps i can think of where you can use it would be, Wet works, bloc, crossfire (inside buildings), Bog and downpour other then that theres no point to it.

On PC the is an option list that includes graphics. Click it.Toggle brightness on dark maps.Jump right back into the same game. No need for night vision.

Yep, that's pretty much what I do... Occasionally if I know someone is hiding in a dark area I'll switch it on before running nito the dark area and knifing them :p

@someone on page 3, too lazy to look back for your name :)
thermal vision would be cool but cannot be used in a fps because then there is no place to hide, maybe if it cannot see through walls it could but that is not realistic and so nothing for cod ;)

I only use it when approaching the inside of the ruined building on the SAS side in Bloc, or when going inside the barn on Overgrown. Otherwise I dont bother.

I use it lots whenever there is a dark/semi-dark place. Although at first it may look weird, it is a lot easier to see the enemy with it. I never use it for more than 5 seconds though, but I usually use it at least once on every map.

Doesn't anyone use it to have fun? I don't use it to see better, I don't think there's any map where you have to use it but I like to play with it. Funniest times are when you have that jump three meters into the air moment when you stumble upon an enemy and accidentally pull the trigger at the right tima and kill them, I then just stop immediatly and switch nv on and of, if he watches killcam then he will see the nv turn on an d of, love it. Or flash them before you knife acamper. So much possibilities :)

Is it true that you can see the lasers from red dot sights with night vision, like in single-player? If so, then suddenly I see a lot of use for it other than seeing in the dark.
7even
05-13-2009, 05:12 AM
Red dot sights are not lasersights, a red dot sight is just a piece off transparent plastic that has a red dot in it. I know they have them in scopeversion too, but they don't emit light. The laser on a lasersight is attached to the weapon or the scope itself.
In cod4 the red dot sights don't emit light, so your NV doesn't show it when soemone is using a Red dot sight.

I used to only use NV in bloc and wetwork, but ive just found out its awesome to leave on in vacant. Also I like to flick it on and off when doing a noscope jump off something, hehe.

Ive never thought of doing it for fun. I find the glare off burning vehicles ect is too bright.
However, thats a new challenge and Im up for it. The next few games in any map on NV only!

only comes on if I hit the wrong button trying to launch UAV. All maps are bright enough, it restricts peripheral vision like the ACOG

Im gonna use it a game and stick "Eavesdropping" on see if it works and anyone Mic'd up on the opposition team mentions it.
Tried it about 10 minutes ago, its damn hard with it on all the time. Backlot with it on its a fricking nightmare I couldnt hit squat!

Yeah I've played against a group in SnD on crash with the tag NV. I didn't know what it was, but then every killcam they had on night vision the whole round. I'm gonna try it too.

I forget it's even there most of the time but have occassionally used it on wetwork---doesn't really impact my play that much and can be a distraction if you walk into one of the well-lit areas
