What are you guys getting for pings? Or better, how many bars? Do you ever get to join a game <100ms ping. You can see it displayed when searching for games.

I am posting this because I am getting this feeling that my lag is worse than average. I understand sometimes you wind up with a far away host, no matter what, but to me it seems I hardly ever get 4 bars, whatever that means. I am wondering if my Comcast cable has anything to do with it.

Last time I was really into an online game was CS before source. In 2000-2002. Back then I was on a DSL and I would not play if my ping was over 100, but preferably less than 50. Since MW2 I can't seem to ever join anything that is below 100ms (based on that "searchin <xxx ms" line). Since you never really see your actual ping I think most my games ping between 150-200 or more. That is of course a real disadvantage and you start getting a lot of those "I emptied a clip into him" scenarios.

My rig is decent, 8800GTX, and a Phenom II 955 4gig and win7. So that is not the issue. Comcast is super fast but I know DSL used to have a better latency. Not sure if that is still the case.

What is your experience in my, or your area on cable?

I use DSL up here in Minnesota. I have yet to connect to a game at less than the "Searching <100..."
I would say that lag is a major issue for me, and 4 bars are rare. My play is directly affected by my connection (as it is for anyone), so I relish those few "good" connections that I get.

So even on DSL you never see <100ms. That blows.
