Ok, I'm sure some will get fired up over this and to that I just want to say, to each their own and your playing style is your playing style. Having said that, I usually play S&D with some TDM and SAB occasionally and usually play on the same couple of clans' servers. Most matches you know you always have those couple of players that dominate the majority of the time. They and most of the regulars in the room talk and brag about how much skill they have. But alot of these people, if you ever spec them, majority of the time are using something like a P90 or mini Uzi and using almost half of a clip whenever they shoot anyone. Is that really skill or more of a pray and spray mentality? About 90% of my kills are a 2-3 roundburst (I usually use a G36c or M4 unless I'm sniping) Even the rare times I am keeping continuous fire on someone trying to hide or run I'm shooting bursts, habits from the Army I guess. Hell, the other day I was one of the last alive on my team, I was sniping, and a
guy poked his head out for a split sec then scurried off and I didn't have time to take a shot. Well a spectator asked why I didn't shoot. I said I didn't aim fast enough. He said "you've got 8 shots, should have sprayed him!" Well I believe if you empty your clip everytime you kill someone, you aren't sniping. Granted, yes I have thrown rounds with a sniper rifle, usually when me and another sniper sight on each other at the same time and I know I'm dead in a sec or two, and I usually feel embarassed afterwards because I did it. Just watching some of these "bad-ass", "skilled", "beasts", whatever, play got me thinking, do they really have skills just because they have a high score? Anyone else feel the same way, or am I just a noob?

Well, I use to only shoot 2-3 round burst with an MP5 but when a plus sign shows up, I usually already have stopped shooting and then thye kill me. This was getting annoying so now I shoot till they die. Also my connection isnt all that, so lag is another big factor.

well those guys are skilled. if they dominate despite their bad aim, they still dominate for some reason. they are skilled at getting kills. when you strafe with an SMG, some of your shots are going to miss, and i dont let go of the trigger until i see a +10 come up. that means the lag caused me to fire 2 or 3 more rounds than it took to kill him.

I always burst. Everyone knows my connection is the pits...and if I find that it takes me half a mag or more of sustained fire to nail one guy up close, I know I'm in for a laggy match lol.
If those guys win by spraying they're still beast---but if you showed me someone that could do the same but with less ammo spent I'd say they were better

I'll go with the topic question as basis.
Skill is someone who is highly capable in all aspects of the game. Weapons, objectives, advancing, defending...
Someone that will top the score in almost any game mode because they play to win, they don't play for themselves.
Someone that can pick up any weapon laying around and have an airstrike in minutes.
Its being able to capture the HQ or a flag solo.
Realizing when your losing and what needs to be done to win the game.
Someone who can put up the same score by themselves as they can with a team of 6.
Its not camping objective games without intent of helping.

Ok, I didn't really consider that some people have laggy connections. I'm pretty spoiled with my roadrunner turbo :) plus I almost never play a server where I ping over 100, probably why I play the same servers all the time. If that's what you have to do to get a kill, then by all means. I was just making a point that it seems more skilled to me to be able to get a kill with a couple of shots than a whole magazine. I can recall numerous times where I'll come around a corner, someone will be there, I'll back up and they'll unload their weapon trying to shoot me through the wall. Then when they are reloading I'll come back around and double tap them.

And Alpha I agree with what you said as well. And yes I have seen some players that could do those things, but I'm guessing not as
many as one might think.

Alpha pretty much hit it on the head.
I find that I'm more skilled when it comes to objectives, when I used to play Core Domination and Headquarters I'd be leading or top 3 of the match just on solo caps.
If I'd start a match half over on the losing side I'd normally net us the win or a pretty close loss. Kills aren't my strong suit, but Capture Objective is my forte. :)
HC HQ .4LL D.4Y!!!
CoD4 actually takes little skill, compared to intelligence (and ping >_>).

when someone is standing still i can tell depending on the weapon EXACTLY how long i have to hold the trigger to put enough bullets into them to kill them, unless they have jug in which case i empty the whole clip for sh*t's and giggles :P

^Above.
I've learned to "count" my hitmarkers and depending on distance, I know how many shots each gun will take. (Ex- I know the limits of my Mp5 before I need 4 shots instead of 3, and etc.)

Most of the guys who trash talk do it to try and mask their real level of 'skill'. There are loads of definitions of skill so i'm not even gonna go into that but the numbers you put up are normally the criteria used for judging skill. I myself look at the bigger picture and see what they're doing for the team.
